Greetings!

The 6th Annual "New Faces of an Ancient People Traditional American Indian Powwow" will be held on April 18-19, 2009, at the Mount Nittany Middle School in State College, PA. A traditional American Indian powwow is a celebration of American Indian dance and culture. Admission is free to the public. Sponsored by Penn State University and The State College Area School District.

2009 Powwow Schedule & Head Staff

Schedule
  • Saturday April 18: Dancer Grand Entry at 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
  • Sunday April 19: Dancer Grand Entry only at 1:00 p.m.
  • Doors, Vendors and Native Kitchen open at 11 a.m., both days.
Head Staff
  • Host Drum: Iron Feather Singers (Southern Drum) Blackburn, OK.
  • Co-Host Drum: Many Voice, Cheyenne River, SD.
  • Co-Host Drum: Wikwemikong Singers, Ontario, Canada.
  • Co-Host Drum: Maza Napin, Yankton, SD.
  • Arena Director: Kenny Irwin, Sr., Arikara.
  • Emcee: Ron Colombe, Rosebud Lakota.
  • Head Male Dancer: Warren Lucio, Oglala Lakota.
  • Head Female Dancer: Martina Merida, Ihanktuwan Dacotah.
  • Head Veteran Dancer: Richard Brings Them, Lakota.

Call for Volunteers

The 2009 Powwow Committee is looking for volunteers now to assist with the logistical aspects of the powwow. Volunteers are needed for Powwow Set up, work in the American Indian Kitchen, Errands/Supplies/Facilities, Take-Down, and various other duties. Please consider taking advantage of this unique opportunity.
